Press and release the “Program” button on your Wayne Dalton opener. The indicator light turn should turn on solid (you have 60 seconds to program). Then press the button on the new remote you want to program. Press the remote button again and the door should operate. Refer to your opener’s manual for specific steps, as older models may vary slightly.
A flashing light often signals an issue with the safety sensors or an incomplete programming cycle. Check that the infrared sensors near the bottom of the door tracks are clean, aligned, and not blocked. Also confirm that all opener covers and wiring are secure.
If the opener will not close, first check the safety sensors. Misaligned or blocked sensors are the most common cause.
You should also test your 372 MHz Keypad or 303 MHz Keypad, and confirm your 372 MHz Remote or 303 MHz Remote is working properly. Also inspect the door tracks for obstructions and verify that the opener is not in “lock” or “vacation” mode.

Think of your garage door springs like the counterweight in an old elevator. Without them, your door would be incredibly difficult to lift manually, and your garage door opener would burn out trying to handle all that weight on its own.

Here's something that surprises a lot of people: there are usually several different spring combinations that will work for your 16x7 door. You might be able to use a single heavy-duty spring or two lighter springs, depending on your setup and preferences.
