External radio receivers let you add modern remotes and keypads to an existing garage door opener—even if the original receiver is incompatible, discontinued, or has failed. They mount near the opener and connect to the same low-voltage terminals as your wall button, restoring convenient, secure remote control.
When to use an add-on receiver:
In most cases yes. Add-on receivers connect to the wall-button terminals and provide their own remote/keypad learning. Always confirm the receiver’s wiring and voltage requirements match your opener.
No. An external receiver does not replace safety sensors. Your opener must have functional photo eyes for safe operation.
Yes. An add-on receiver can coexist with working remotes. You can program new remotes/keypads to the external receiver while old ones continue to use the original receiver.

We've found that replacing the majority of the hinges and installing the rest of the kit does a pretty good job of silencing the door without needing to deal with that bottom roller. If you really feel it needs to be changed, we have a separate process for that, but it's not necessary for most installations.
