Installer using TorqueMaster Plus Winding Tool on Wayne Dalton spring system

For Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster Spring Systems

The TorqueMaster Plus Winding Tool is a game-changer for garage door installers. Whether you’re replacing a spring or doing back-to-back installs, this tool delivers safe, accurate spring tensioning — fast. Built-in rotation tracking eliminates guesswork and speeds up the job, saving time and reducing call-backs.

Step-by-Step Instructions

⚠️ Safety First: Before doing anything, use locking pliers or C-clamps on the vertical tracks above the rollers to prevent the door from opening during spring tensioning. Failure to do so can result in serious injury.

  1. Position the Ratchet Pawl:
Turn the pawl knob upward to engage the winding ratchet mechanism.
  2. Slide the Tool onto the Shaft:
Align the internal hex of the winding tool with the spring shaft and slide the tool in place until it’s fully seated.
  3. Set the Counter to Zero:
Rotate the black counter cover to line up with the “0” position, then lock it in place. This will allow you to track how many full turns you apply to the spring.
  4. Start Winding:
Use a drill set to low speed (no more than 1300 RPM) and torque with a 7/16” socket. Wind the bolt head clockwise. The ratchet will engage with each full rotation and the counter will increase.
  5. Watch the Counter:
Refer to the chart provided in your spring kit or the instruction manual to find the correct number of turns for your door height. For example, a 7’ tall door typically takes around 16-18 turns.
  6. Repeat on Opposite Side:
If your system uses a second spring, repeat all steps on the other side of the garage door shaft.

Why It’s Built for Installers

This tool isn’t just about ease, it’s about doing the job right. It’s made for professionals who need to work quickly and accurately. No more counting turns by hand or second-guessing spring tension. Whether you’re doing one garage or five in a day, the TorqueMaster Plus Winding Tool makes each install faster, cleaner, and safer.
