How to Order Your TorqueMaster Spring Using Door Height & Weight

ordering torquemaster springs by height and weight

If your spring label is missing or too worn to read, no problem — you can still order the exact replacement spring using your door’s height and weight.

This is a super reliable method, and we’ll walk through each step below.

Step 1: Figure Out Which TorqueMaster System You Have

First, you need to know whether you have the original TorqueMaster (TM) or the newer TorqueMaster Plus (TM3 or TMP) system. Here’s how to tell:

TorqueMaster Plus (TM3 or TMP):
If your winding end has a spring cone sticking out of the bracket, you’ve got TorqueMaster Plus. The spring tube label will usually say TM3 or TMP.

Original TorqueMaster (TM):
If you see a visible counter gear on the outside of the bracket, that’s the original system. It will be labeled TM on the spring tube.

This is the first thing you’ll choose in the selector under “Spring Type.”

Step 2: Measure Your Garage Door Height

Next, measure your garage door from the floor to the top of the opening. Use this rule:

  • If your door height is 6’6” to 7’5”, select 7 ft
  • If your door height is 7’6” to 8’5”, select 8 ft

Tip: If your spring label is still readable, it may list the door height there as well. But measuring is the safest bet.

Step 3: Weigh Your Garage Door

If your spring is broken and the door is disconnected from the opener, you can weigh it at home using a bathroom scale. Here’s how:

  • Lift the door just enough to slide a bathroom scale under the center.
  • Make sure the entire weight of the door is sitting on the scale.
  • Both cables should be completely slack.
  • The number on the scale is your door weight.

Important: If there’s still tension on the springs or cables, your reading won’t be accurate.

Weighing your garage door

Can’t weigh it?
Check the label on your spring tube. Sometimes it lists the exact door weight. If not, just send us a photo of the label and we’ll help.

Important: Single vs Dual Spring in the 50 to 110 lb Range

For door weights between 50 to 110 lbs, there are single and dual spring options. You should reference the label on your spring tube to confirm which setup you have:

  • If the label lists two spring dimensions — one marked RH (right-hand) and one marked LH (left-hand) — your system uses two springs.
  • If the label lists only one spring dimension, your system uses a single spring.

Visual check: Dual-spring setups usually have a winding cone and gears on both ends of the spring tube. Single-spring setups have the full winding gear and cone only on the right side. The left side may have a cone without gears, or just an idler bracket.

To be sure, take a clear photo of the label on your spring tube and both ends of the tube, then send them to us for confirmation before ordering.

Step 4: Enter Your Info in the Tool

Now that you’ve got:

  • Your spring type (TM or TM3/TMP)
  • Your door height
  • Your door weight (Single or Dual spring selection)

Just enter select those details below and we’ll match you with the correct spring instantly.
