Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster spring systems use enclosed springs mounted inside a steel tube above the garage door. There are two primary versions: TorqueMaster Original and TorqueMaster Plus. Correct replacement parts depend on matching the system style, spring configuration, and door weight requirements.
TorqueMaster Original systems may also be labeled as TM or TorqueMaster One. TorqueMaster Plus systems commonly appear as TM3, TMII, or TMP on the tube label.
The end hardware is often the easiest way to identify the system. Original and Plus systems use different winding assemblies and are not directly interchangeable without a full conversion kit.
TorqueMaster springs can typically be identified using one of three methods:
The garage door model number alone is not enough to determine spring size because windows, insulation, and hardware options affect door weight.
How to Order TorqueMaster Springs
Unlike standard torsion springs, TorqueMaster springs are enclosed inside the tube so there is usually no visible gap when broken.
If one spring has broken, replacing both springs is strongly recommended. Springs are designed with similar life cycle ratings, so the remaining spring is often close to failure as well.
Some TorqueMaster systems use a single spring while others use double springs. If matching replacement pairs are no longer available, many customers convert to a single spring TorqueMaster Plus setup using a complete conversion kit.
Partial mixing of Original and Plus hardware is not recommended.
Modern replacement springs may use different wire sizes, lengths, or coil diameters while still being correctly matched for your garage door weight. Newer high tensile spring wire designs often look different from older original springs.
If the replacement was ordered using the correct part number, measurements, or door weight, differences in appearance are normal.
Plastic sleeve liners are not included with replacement springs. Existing liners may be reused, trimmed to fit, or replaced separately if desired for noise reduction.

Many original TorqueMaster winding assemblies and gears have been discontinued. If the original hardware is worn or damaged, upgrading to TorqueMaster Plus is often the most reliable long-term solution.

TorqueMaster springs are pre-lubricated from the factory. Periodic lubrication of moving hardware and spring ends may help improve quiet operation and longevity.
Clear photos of the tube labels, end hardware, and existing springs are strongly recommended when requesting help identifying replacement TorqueMaster springs.

We've found that replacing the majority of the hinges and installing the rest of the kit does a pretty good job of silencing the door without needing to deal with that bottom roller. If you really feel it needs to be changed, we have a separate process for that, but it's not necessary for most installations.
