## How to Realign Garage Door Safety Sensors

Misaligned safety sensors are one of the most common causes of garage door closing problems.

1.  Inspect the sensor indicator lights
2.  Loosen the mounting brackets slightly
3.  Adjust both sensors so they face each other directly
4.  Verify both sensors are mounted at the same height
5.  Tighten the brackets carefully without shifting alignment
6.  Clean the sensor lenses with a soft cloth

The receiving sensor light should typically remain solid when alignment is correct.

## Why Is My Garage Door Sensor Light Blinking?

A blinking or off sensor light often indicates:

-   Sensor misalignment
-   Damaged low-voltage wiring
-   Loose wire connections
-   Direct sunlight interference
-   Failed or damaged sensor

If both sensor LEDs are completely off, inspect the wiring connections at both the opener head and the sensor terminals.

## Why Won’t My Garage Door Close?

If the garage door opener will only close while holding the wall button, the opener is usually not detecting a valid safety sensor signal.

4.  Hold both sensors close together facing each other
5.  Swap sensor wiring positions at the opener terminals

If the sensors still fail alignment at close range, replacement sensors may be required.

## Garage Door Sensor Wiring Problems

Low-voltage sensor wiring can become damaged from staples, rodents, vibration, or age. Intermittent wiring failures may cause random reversing, flashing lights, or inconsistent operation.

Carefully inspect the wire path from the opener to both sensors for cuts, pinched sections, or loose terminal connections.

## Replacing Garage Door Safety Sensors

Replacement sensors must be compatible with the garage door opener brand and model. Most manufacturers use brand-specific safety sensor systems.
