# Garage Door Springs

Select the type of garage door spring your have on your garage door.  Replacement springs for garage doors are one of 3 basic types - [torsion springs](/collections/torsion-springs "Torsion garage door spring replacements"), [torquemaster springs](/collections/garage-door-torquemaster-springs "Torquemaster garage door spring replacements"), and [extension springs](/collections/extension-springs "Extension garage door spring replacements"). Wayne Dalton torquemaster springs are only made for Wayne Dalton garage doors. Garage door torsion springs and garage door extension springs are compatible with all makes and models of garage doors. You need to determine which type of garage door spring you currently have on your garage door and then replace the springs with the same type.

**What Kind Of Garage Door Spring Do You Have?**

We know how inconvenient it is when your garage door won’t go up, don’t worry we are here to Help. You'll first need to identify your current garage door spring type. Garage door springs fall into one of three basic types: torsion springs, Torquemaster springs, and extension spring.

**Torsion Springs**

Garage door torsion springs are the most commonly used springs on residential garage doors. They are usually installed horizontally above the door and wound (with torsion bars) to lift the door when it's opened. If you see a spring mounted horizontally on a bar above your garage door, it's likely a torsion spring.

**Torquemaster Springs**

Torquemaster and Torquemaster Plus Springs are a special type of torsion spring, but they're exclusive to Wayne Dalton garage doors. They are contained within a metal tube above the door and use a unique winding system. If you have a Wayne Dalton garage door and a spring within a metal tube, it's likely a Torquemaster spring.

**Extension Springs**

Extension springs are typically installed on either side of the garage door and stretch along the track when the door is closed. They extend and contract as the door is opened and closed. If you see springs running parallel to your garage door tracks, they're most likely extension springs.
